However, based on the battery structure system of aluminum foil, the annual performance improvement rate of energy-type batteries is less than 3%. While the volume energy density of power-type batteries is low, the processing cost of thin pole pieces remains high. As competition in the international market intensifies. The industry is eager to realize the thickened pole piece technology that combines energy and power.
In the face of many industry pain points, Tsinghua University, together with ZTT Supercapacitor, made arrangements in advance. They jointly developed “High-power lithium-ion battery technology based on foamed aluminum thick pole pieces”.
ZTT Supercap New Tech
After five years of technical research, ZTT Supercapacitor has developed a new technology to overcome technical difficulties. That is the industrialization of three-dimensional through-hole pure aluminum foam. And successfully developed lithium iron phosphate type and ternary type lithium-ion battery with foam aluminum thick pole piece. For instance, a high-power soft-pack lithium-ion battery (1.74Ah) with a thick pole piece (170μm) was produced for the first time, achieving high volume-specific power characteristics (10.46s instantaneous discharge power density of 12.33kW/L) and high volume-specific energy (406Wh/ L) Compatible.
On April 8, the technical achievement was identified as “internationally leading level” by an appraisal committee. Of which composed of 9 experts with Academician Yang Yusheng as the chairman.
This achievement not only makes full use of the technical advantages of thick electrode technology and thick electrode sheet batteries. But also provides great possibilities for developing high-performance battery-type capacitors to serve more and more diverse application scenarios.
