Why Lithium-ion Capacitor?
Lithium-ion Capacitor (LiC) is a new energy storage device that combines supercapacitor and lithium-ion battery technologies. It stores energy by shallow embedding and shallow disembedding of lithium ions. Which with characteristics intermediate between supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries. The battery electrodes have been redesigned with new composite materials to improve the overall performance of the product.
Here at ZTT Supercapacitor, we’d like to list several applications of LiC for your reference.
LiC Features
Safety and Security
Activated carbon + metal oxide positive electrode
Carbon composite material for the negative electrode
Non-flammable and non-explosive
High Capacity
10-15 times the capacity of EDLC
Smaller size for the same capacity, freeing up more space
Charge and Discharge Rate
Charge/discharge multiplier lasts 20-30C
An instantaneous multiplier up to 100C for explosive release of battery energy
Low Self-discharge
Low self-discharge, long standby time
Slow capacity loss and long life
Lithium-ion Capacitor for Smart Water Meters
In recent years, smart water meters have become increasingly popular to monitor water usage and help reduce waste. Lithium-ion capacitors have proven to be an ideal energy storage solution for these devices. As they provide reliable power while minimizing the size and weight of the meter.
The ZTT LiC Supercapacitor 5.5V1.5F is perfectly suited for smart water meters. These require backup power to ensure complete recorded data and intelligent valve shut-off. These are used in parallel with lithium sub-batteries to increase the instantaneous power.

Lithium-ion capacitor for Vehicle Recorders
Another application for lithium-ion capacitors is in vehicle recorders, which are used to capture footage of accidents, traffic violations, and other events on the road. These devices require reliable power in order to function correctly, and lithium-ion capacitors provide the energy storage needed to ensure that they remain operational even in challenging conditions.
Most vehicle recorders previously used EDLC 5.5V1.5F as a backup power supply. However, due to size and cost, mainstream manufacturers are gradually replacing this with 3.8V40F Li-ion supercapacitors.
LiC Modules for Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) Systems
Electronic toll collection (ETC) systems are another area where lithium-ion capacitors are finding widespread use. These systems rely on reliable power sources in order to function properly. And the fast charging and discharging capabilities of LiCs make them an ideal choice for this application.
The ETC system needs to be installed above the windscreen. Generally speaking, most vehicle recorders are solar-charged and use lithium-ion supercapacitors to store direct energy. ETC systems use automatic vehicle identification technology and need to establish wireless data communication. Then, Lithium-ion supercapacitor modules of 3.8V70F mainly provide the energy required for module data return and extend the lifetime.
Conclusion
Lithium-ion capacitors offer significant advantages over traditional energy storage solutions and are finding widespread use in various applications including smart water meters, vehicle recorders, ETC systems, etc…
ZTT supercapacitors are high-reliability, high-power, ultra-high capacitance devices that are ideal for energy storage systems.
